Early Aviation (1900s-1930s)[edit | edit source]
- 1919 Atlantic City air show crash: A Curtiss JN-4 crashed during a demonstration flight.
- 1931 Transcontinental & Western Air Fokker F-10 crash: The crash led to the death of famous football coach Knute Rockne.
1940s[edit | edit source]
- 1947 BSAA Avro Lancastrian Star Dust accident: The aircraft disappeared in the Andes and was found decades later.
- 1948 Air France Latécoère 631 disappearance: The aircraft disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean.
1950s[edit | edit source]
- 1956 Grand Canyon mid-air collision: A United Airlines Douglas DC-7 collided with a Trans World Airlines Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation over the Grand Canyon.
- 1958 Munich air disaster: A British European Airways Airspeed Ambassador crashed during takeoff, killing 23 people, including 8 Manchester United F.C. players.

- 1960 New York mid-air collision: A United Airlines Douglas DC-8 collided with a Trans World Airlines Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation over New York City.
- 1963 Aeroflot Tupolev Tu-124 Neva River ditching: The aircraft ditched in the Neva River in Leningrad.

- 1972 Andes flight disaster: A Uruguayan Air Force Fairchild FH-227 crashed in the Andes; survivors resorted to cannibalism.
- 1977 Tenerife airport disaster: Two Boeing 747s collided on the runway at Los Rodeos Airport, resulting in 583 fatalities.

- 1985 Japan Airlines Flight 123: A Boeing 747SR crashed into a mountain, killing 520 people.
- 1988 Lockerbie bombing: Pan Am Flight 103, a Boeing 747, was destroyed by a bomb over Lockerbie, Scotland.

- 1996 Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision: A Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747 collided with a Kazakhstan Airlines Ilyushin Il-76 over India.
- 1999 EgyptAir Flight 990: A Boeing 767 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

- 2001 September 11 attacks: Four commercial aircraft were hijacked and used in terrorist attacks in the United States.
- 2009 Air France Flight 447: An Airbus A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

- 2014 Malaysia Airlines Flight 370: A Boeing 777 disappeared over the Indian Ocean.
- 2015 Germanwings Flight 9525: An Airbus A320 was deliberately crashed into the French Alps by the co-pilot.
2020s[edit | edit source]
- 2020 Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752: A Boeing 737 was shot down shortly after takeoff from Tehran, Iran.
- 2021 Sriwijaya Air Flight 182: A Boeing 737 crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, Indonesia.
