Lloyd B. Minor is an American otolaryngologist and academic leader. He is the Carl and Elizabeth Naumann Dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine, a position he has held since December 1, 2012. Minor is known for his contributions to the field of otolaryngology, particularly in the study and treatment of balance disorders.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Minor was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. He earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Brown University and his medical degree from the Brown University Alpert Medical School. He completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Chicago and a fellowship in otology and neurotology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Before joining Stanford, Minor served as the Andelot Professor and Director of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was also a professor of neuroscience and otolaryngology at Johns Hopkins.

At Stanford, Minor has focused on integrating research, education, and patient care. Under his leadership, the Stanford University School of Medicine has advanced in various fields, including precision health, genomics, and digital health.

Minor is renowned for his discovery of superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS), a disorder of the inner ear that affects balance and hearing. His research has significantly impacted the diagnosis and treatment of balance disorders, and he has published extensively in this area.
