Mahosot Hospital is a hospital located in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. Established in 1903, it specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases and serves as a prominent medical research and training center. The hospital plays a crucial role in addressing the country's health challenges, as Laos has a relatively low life expectancy and is affected by diseases such as typhus, typhoid, malaria, and bacteraemia.
Since 2000, Mahosot Hospital has been home to the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit, a collaborative effort between the Wellcome Trust and the University of Oxford. The hospital's Infectious Diseases Centre comprises a patient ward on the ground floor with varying degrees of isolation, a laboratory and research area, and offices and conference rooms on the upper floor.
