Mars Incorporated

Mars Incorporated is an American multinational manufacturer of confectionery, pet food, and other food products, with $33 billion in annual sales in 2015. It was ranked as the 6th largest privately held company in the United States by Forbes. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, United States, the company is entirely owned by the Mars family.

Mars Incorporated was founded by Franklin Clarence Mars in 1911. Mars's son Forrest Mars Sr. expanded the company globally and helped to create the Mars bar and M&M's, two of the company's most recognizable products.

Products[edit | edit source]

Mars Incorporated produces a number of well-known confectionery and food products. These include:

  • Mars Bar - A chocolate bar first manufactured in 1932.
  • M&M's - Colorful button-shaped chocolates, each of which has the letter "m" printed in lower case on one side.
  • Snickers - A brand name chocolate bar made by the American company Mars, Incorporated, consisting of nougat topped with caramel and peanuts that has been enrobed in milk chocolate.
  • Twix - A chocolate bar made by Mars, Inc., consisting of a biscuit applied with other confectionery toppings and coatings.
  • Uncle Ben's - A brand name for parboiled rice and other related food products.
  • Whiskas - A brand of cat food sold throughout the world, owned by American company Mars, Incorporated.

Corporate Responsibility[edit | edit source]

Mars Incorporated has a number of corporate responsibility initiatives. These include the Cocoa Sustainability program, which aims to ensure a sustainable cocoa supply chain, and the Mars Ambassador Program, which allows Mars associates to work on projects around the world that are important to the business and the communities in which it operates.
