Matilde Montoya

Montoya's educational journey was fraught with challenges. She initially studied at the Escuela de Medicina Homeopática in Mexico City, where she faced considerable opposition due to her gender. Despite these obstacles, she persevered and later attended the Escuela Nacional de Medicina (now the Facultad de Medicina of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México).

In 1887, Montoya became the first woman in Mexico to earn a medical degree. Her graduation was a significant milestone in Mexican history, symbolizing the breaking of gender barriers in the medical profession.
