Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) is a healthcare institution located in Eldoret, Kenya. It is the second-largest national referral hospital in the country and serves as a teaching hospital for Moi University College of Health Sciences.

MTRH was established in 1916 as a military hospital during the First World War. It was later converted into a civilian hospital and renamed the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital. In 1998, the hospital was upgraded to a referral and teaching hospital and renamed Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Services[edit | edit source]

MTRH offers a wide range of medical services, including emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry. The hospital also provides specialized services such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, and nephrology.

Research and Training[edit | edit source]

MTRH is affiliated with Moi University College of Health Sciences and serves as a training ground for medical students, nursing students, and residents. The hospital is also involved in various medical research projects, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

The hospital has a bed capacity of 1000, making it one of the largest healthcare facilities in Kenya. It also has modern diagnostic equipment, including MRI and CT scan machines.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Despite its status and importance, MTRH faces several challenges, including inadequate funding, staff shortages, and a high patient load.
