Washington is a state located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state on November 11, 1889. The state is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States. Washington is bordered by Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east, and the Canadian province of British Columbia to the north. To the west lies the Pacific Ocean.
