Saprisartan is a pharmaceutical compound that belongs to the class of angiotensin II receptor antagonists, commonly known as ARBs (Angiotensin Receptor Blockers). These medications are primarily used in the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and certain types of heart failure.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Saprisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1 receptor) in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. By inhibiting this interaction, saprisartan effectively reduces vasoconstriction and the secretion of aldosterone, leading to a decrease in blood pressure and a reduction in the workload on the heart.
