Smažený sýr

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Smažený sýr is a traditional Czech and Slovak dish, popular across the Central European region. The name translates to "fried cheese" in English. This dish is a staple in Czech and Slovak pubs and is often served as a street food.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

The main ingredient of Smažený sýr is a slice of cheese, typically Edam, Hermelín, or Niva, which is breaded and then fried. The cheese is first coated in flour, then dipped in beaten egg, and finally rolled in breadcrumbs. It is then deep-fried until golden brown. The result is a crispy exterior with a melted cheese interior.

Serving[edit | edit source]

Smažený sýr is typically served hot with a side of tartar sauce, and often accompanied by a salad, fries, or boiled potatoes. It is also commonly served in a bun as a Czech version of a cheeseburger, known as Smažák.

Variations[edit | edit source]

While the traditional Smažený sýr uses Edam, Hermelín, or Niva cheese, variations of the dish can be found using different types of cheese. In addition, some versions may include ham or other meats sandwiched between two slices of cheese before breading and frying.
