5-MeO-T-NBOMe
5-MeO-T-NBOMe is a psychedelic and hallucinogenic substance that is part of the NBOMe series of drugs. It is a derivative of the phenethylamine class of compounds and is known for its potent serotonin receptor agonist properties.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
5-MeO-T-NBOMe is a member of the 2C family of phenethylamines which contain methoxy groups on the 2 and 5 positions of the benzene ring. It is a derivative of 2C-T-7, but unlike 2C-T-7, it is not orally active, and must be administered via other routes such as insufflation or sublingual administration.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacological action of 5-MeO-T-NBOMe is primarily through its activity as a potent 5-HT2A receptor agonist. This receptor is known to be the primary target of psychedelic drugs, and its activation results in the psychedelic effects observed with 5-MeO-T-NBOMe. The drug also shows affinity for other serotonin receptors, but the significance of these interactions is not fully understood.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of 5-MeO-T-NBOMe can vary greatly depending on the dose, route of administration, individual physiology, and set and setting. Common effects include visual hallucinations, changes in perception, euphoria, and cognitive enhancement. However, the drug can also cause negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and potentially dangerous physical effects such as increased heart rate and blood pressure.
Risks and Safety[edit | edit source]
Like other drugs in the NBOMe series, 5-MeO-T-NBOMe is known to be extremely potent, and there is a high risk of overdose due to the small difference between a recreational dose and a potentially lethal one. There have been several reported deaths associated with NBOMe drugs, and as such, they are considered to be high-risk substances.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of 5-MeO-T-NBOMe varies by country. In many places, it is a controlled substance, making its manufacture, distribution, and possession illegal. However, due to its relative novelty, it is not specifically regulated in all jurisdictions.
