Aurobindo Pharma is a multinational pharmaceutical company based in Hitech City, Hyderabad, India. The company manufactures generic pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients. The company’s area of activity includes six major therapeutic/product areas: antibiotics, anti-retrovirals, cardiovascular products, central nervous system products, gastroenterologicals, and anti-allergics. The company markets these products in over 125 countries. Its marketing partners include AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

Aurobindo Pharma was established in 1986 by P.V. Ramprasad Reddy, K. Nityananda Reddy and a small group of highly committed professionals. The company commenced operations in 1988-89 with a single unit manufacturing semi-synthetic penicillin (SSP) at Pondicherry.

Products[edit | edit source]

Aurobindo Pharma became a public company in 1992 and listed its shares in the Indian stock markets in 1995. In addition to being the market leader in Semi-Synthetic Penicillins, it has a presence in key therapeutic segments such as neurosciences, cardiovascular, anti-retrovirals, anti-diabetics, gastroenterology and cephalosporins, among others.

Through the years, Aurobindo Pharma has acquired several manufacturing and research units around the world. This includes units in countries like USA, Japan, Brazil, Germany, France, Portugal, South Africa, Romania, and Russia.

Research and Development[edit | edit source]

Aurobindo Pharma has a dedicated Research and Development center for API (Process Innovation, Analytical Method Development and Validation, Pilot Plant Scale-up) and Formulation R&D (NDDS, Analytical Research).
