Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty

From WikiMD's WELLNESSPEDIA

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty is a notable figure in the field of medicine and health, particularly in relation to obesity and weight loss. She was born in Egypt and is known for being one of the heaviest women ever recorded, with a peak weight of approximately 500 kilograms (1,100 lb).

Early Life[edit]

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1980. She was diagnosed with elephantiasis shortly after her birth, a condition that causes swelling in the body's tissues. This condition, along with a thyroid problem, contributed to her extreme weight gain.

Medical Condition and Treatment[edit]

Eman's weight continued to increase throughout her life, eventually reaching an estimated 500 kilograms (1,100 lb). This made her one of the heaviest people in recorded history. Her weight caused numerous health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, gout, and respiratory issues.

In 2017, Eman underwent a bariatric surgery in India to help manage her weight. The surgery was performed by a team of doctors led by Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala. The procedure involved shrinking the size of her stomach, which would help reduce her food intake and lead to weight loss.

After Surgery[edit]

Following the surgery, Eman's weight was reported to have dropped to 170 kilograms (370 lb). She was then transferred to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for further treatment and rehabilitation. Despite the initial success of the surgery, Eman passed away in September 2017 due to complications from her underlying medical conditions.

Legacy[edit]

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty's story has brought global attention to the issue of obesity and the health risks associated with it. Her case has also highlighted the importance of access to medical care and treatment for those suffering from extreme obesity.
