Erez Lieberman Aiden

Erez Lieberman Aiden is an American biologist, geneticist, and computer scientist. He is known for his pioneering work in the field of genomics and computational biology. Aiden is a professor at Baylor College of Medicine and an associate professor at Rice University.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Erez Lieberman Aiden was born in New York City. He attended Princeton University, where he earned his B.A. in mathematics and physics. He then pursued a Ph.D. in applied mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he worked under the supervision of Eric Lander.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his Ph.D., Aiden joined the Harvard Society of Fellows as a Junior Fellow. He later became a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University. Aiden is also a principal investigator at the Center for Genome Architecture.

Research[edit | edit source]

Aiden's research focuses on the three-dimensional structure of the genome and its implications for gene regulation and disease. He is best known for developing the Hi-C technique, which allows scientists to study the three-dimensional architecture of genomes. This technique has provided significant insights into how the genome is organized within the cell nucleus and how this organization affects gene expression.

Awards and Honors[edit | edit source]

Erez Lieberman Aiden has received numerous awards for his contributions to science, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director's Pioneer Award and the American Physical Society's Early Career Award for Soft Matter Research.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Aiden is married to Jeanne Garbarino, a biochemist and the Director of Science Outreach at Rockefeller University. They have two children.
