Everett E. Vokes

Everett E. Vokes is a renowned oncologist and medical researcher specializing in the treatment of head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and other thoracic malignancies. He is currently the John E. Ultmann Professor of Medicine and Radiation Oncology at the University of Chicago.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Everett E. Vokes was born and raised in Germany. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Heidelberg, where he also earned his medical degree. He then moved to the United States for his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Following his residency, Vokes completed a fellowship in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Vokes began his career at the University of Chicago in 1983, where he has remained for the entirety of his professional career. He has held numerous leadership positions, including Chair of the Department of Medicine from 2009 to 2017. His research focuses on the development of new chemotherapy regimens and the integration of these regimens with radiation therapy and surgery.

Vokes is known for his work in developing and testing new treatments for head and neck cancers and lung cancers. His research has led to significant advancements in the treatment of these diseases, including the development of new chemotherapy drugs and treatment protocols.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Vokes has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and the American College of Physicians (ACP). He has also been recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his research contributions.
