Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) is a public hospital located in Malé, the capital city of the Maldives. Named after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, the hospital is the largest medical facility in the country.
History[edit]
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital was established in 1995 as a gift from the Indian government. It was named in honor of Indira Gandhi, who served as the Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. The hospital was built to provide advanced medical care to the citizens of the Maldives, who previously had limited access to such services.
Facilities and Services[edit]
The hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including emergency medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and internal medicine. It also has specialized departments for cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, and radiology. The hospital is equipped with modern medical technology and employs a team of highly trained medical professionals.
Role in Public Health[edit]
As the largest hospital in the Maldives, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital plays a crucial role in the country's public health system. It serves as a referral center for smaller hospitals and clinics throughout the country. The hospital also plays a key role in medical education and research, providing training for medical students and conducting research on various health issues affecting the Maldives.
