Lanperisone
Lanperisone is a muscle relaxant used in the treatment of muscle spasms. It is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that works by inhibiting the neuronal transmission of pain signals in the central nervous system.
Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]
Lanperisone acts by blocking sodium channels on the nerve cell membrane, thereby inhibiting the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. This results in a decrease in muscle tone and relief from muscle spasms.
Indications[edit | edit source]
Lanperisone is indicated for the treatment of muscle spasms associated with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and other neurological disorders. It is also used in the management of chronic pain conditions.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Lanperisone include drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea. Less common side effects may include headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Contraindications[edit | edit source]
Lanperisone is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver disease or kidney disease.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Lanperisone may interact with other medications, including antidepressants, antihistamines, and sedatives. It is important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are currently taking before starting treatment with Lanperisone.
Dosage and Administration[edit | edit source]
The dosage of Lanperisone is determined by the severity of the condition and the patient's response to treatment. It is usually taken orally, three times a day.
