From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Queens Community Board 11 is a local government body in the New York City borough of Queens, responsible for advising on land use and zoning, participating in the city budget process, and addressing community concerns. It encompasses the neighborhoods of Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, East Flushing, Oakland Gardens, and Hollis Hills.

History[edit | edit source]

The community board system in New York City was established in 1975 as part of a decentralization effort. Queens Community Board 11, like all community boards, is composed of up to 50 volunteer members appointed by the Queens Borough President, half from nominations by City Council members representing the community district.

Responsibilities[edit | edit source]

Queens Community Board 11 is responsible for advising on land use and zoning matters, the city budget, municipal service delivery, and many other local concerns. It reviews applications for zoning changes and makes recommendations to the City Planning Commission. It also plays a role in the city's budget process by identifying community needs and advocating for funding.

Meetings[edit | edit source]

The board meets once a month, and these meetings are open to the public. In addition to the full board meetings, committees of the board meet regularly to discuss specific issues. These committees include the Land Use Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Public Safety Committee, among others.

Neighborhoods[edit | edit source]

The board serves several neighborhoods in northeastern Queens. These include Bayside, a suburban neighborhood known for its historic homes; Douglaston and Little Neck, which are known for their large houses and waterfront views; Auburndale, a residential neighborhood with a mix of housing styles; East Flushing, a diverse neighborhood with a large Asian population; Oakland Gardens, a middle-class neighborhood with many parks; and Hollis Hills, a small residential neighborhood known for its tree-lined streets.
