Testosterone buciclate

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Testosterone buciclate is a synthetic anabolic steroid and a derivative of testosterone. It is an androgen ester—specifically, the C17β cyclohexylpropionate ester of testosterone—and is marketed under the brand name 20 Aeternitas in Spain for use in androgen replacement therapy.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As an androgen, testosterone buciclate binds to and activates the androgen receptor (AR), which leads to changes in gene expression and increased protein synthesis. This results in the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics and increased muscle mass and strength.

Medical uses[edit | edit source]

Testosterone buciclate is used in androgen replacement therapy to treat hypogonadism, a condition in which the body does not produce enough testosterone. It is also used to treat certain types of breast cancer in women.

Side effects[edit | edit source]

Like all anabolic steroids, testosterone buciclate can have a number of side effects, including acne, hair loss, gynecomastia, and increased risk of prostate cancer. It can also cause changes in mood, including increased aggression and irritability.
