American Society of Nephrology[edit | edit source]

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) is a professional organization dedicated to the study of the kidney and the treatment of kidney disease. Founded in 1966, the ASN is committed to advancing the field of nephrology through education, research, and advocacy.

History[edit | edit source]

The ASN was established in 1966 by a group of nephrologists who recognized the need for a dedicated society to support the growing field of nephrology. The society has since grown to include over 21,000 members worldwide, including physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals.

Mission and Goals[edit | edit source]

The mission of the ASN is to "lead the fight against kidney disease by educating health professionals, sharing new knowledge, advancing research, and advocating the highest quality care for patients." The society aims to:

  • Promote excellence in the care of patients with kidney disease.
  • Advance the education of nephrologists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support research in nephrology and related fields.
  • Advocate for policies that improve the care of patients with kidney disease.

Activities[edit | edit source]

The ASN conducts a variety of activities to fulfill its mission, including:

Annual Meeting[edit | edit source]

The ASN hosts an annual meeting known as "Kidney Week," which is the largest nephrology meeting in the world. This event brings together thousands of nephrologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss the latest advances in kidney research and treatment.

Education[edit | edit source]

The ASN provides a range of educational resources, including online courses, webinars, and certification programs. These resources are designed to help nephrologists and other healthcare professionals stay current with the latest developments in the field.

Research[edit | edit source]

The ASN supports research through grants and fellowships, as well as by publishing the "Journal of the American Society of Nephrology" (JASN) and "Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology" (CJASN). These journals feature original research articles, reviews, and editorials on a wide range of topics related to nephrology.

Advocacy[edit | edit source]

The ASN advocates for policies that improve the care of patients with kidney disease. This includes working with government agencies, healthcare organizations, and other stakeholders to promote access to high-quality care and support for kidney research.
