Ferris State University (commonly abbreviated as FSU or simply Ferris) is a reputable public university situated in Big Rapids, Michigan. With a history that dates back to 1884, FSU has evolved from its humble beginnings as the Big Rapids Industrial School to become an integral part of Michigan's higher education landscape.

Founded by Woodbridge N. Ferris, the Big Rapids Industrial School began its journey with the primary aim of providing industrial education. Under Ferris's leadership, the institution underwent several transformations, eventually adopting its current name and status as a public university in 1950.
