5-Chloro-αMT

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

5-Chloro-αMT (also known as 5-Chloro-alpha-methyltryptamine) is a synthetic indole alkaloid molecule of the tryptamine class. Tryptamines share a core structure comprised of a bicyclic indole heterocycle attached at R3 to an amino group via an ethyl side chain. 5-Chloro-αMT is substituted at the R5 position of its indole heterocycle with a chlorine atom. It also contains a methyl group and a tryptamine backbone.

History[edit | edit source]

5-Chloro-αMT was first synthesized in the 1960s as part of a series of chemical compounds that were being developed for potential therapeutic use. However, due to its potent psychedelic effects, it was never approved for medical use.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

5-Chloro-αMT acts as a serotonin receptor agonist. It has a high affinity for the 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors, which are primarily responsible for its psychedelic effects. It also has a moderate affinity for the 5-HT1A receptor.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 5-Chloro-αMT can vary greatly depending on the dose and individual's physiology. However, common effects include visual hallucinations, altered perception of time, enhanced introspection, and increased emotional sensitivity. At higher doses, it can cause nausea, anxiety, and potentially dangerous increases in heart rate and blood pressure.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 5-Chloro-αMT varies by country. In some countries, it is classified as a controlled substance, while in others it is legal to possess for personal use.
