Alexander M. Dockery
Alexander Monroe Dockery (February 11, 1845 – December 26, 1926) was an American physician and politician who served as the 30th Governor of Missouri from 1901 to 1905. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Dockery was born in Daviess County, Missouri. He attended local schools before pursuing higher education at the St. Louis Medical College, where he earned his medical degree.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
After completing his education, Dockery returned to Daviess County to practice medicine. He quickly became a respected physician in the community.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Dockery's political career began when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1882, representing Missouri's 3rd congressional district. He served in Congress until 1899, when he decided to run for governor.
Governor of Missouri[edit | edit source]
Dockery was elected as the 30th Governor of Missouri in 1900 and took office on January 14, 1901. During his tenure, he focused on improving the state's infrastructure, education system, and public health services. He served until January 9, 1905, and was succeeded by Joseph W. Folk.
Later life and death[edit | edit source]
After leaving office, Dockery continued to be active in public service and community affairs. He passed away on December 26, 1926, in Gallatin, Missouri.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Dockery is remembered for his contributions to both medicine and politics in Missouri. His efforts in improving public health and education had a lasting impact on the state.
