EEG biofeedback
EEG Biofeedback is a type of biofeedback therapy that uses real-time displays of brain activity, most commonly electroencephalography (EEG), to teach self-regulation of brain function. This therapy is used to treat a variety of psychological and physical conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.
Overview[edit | edit source]
EEG Biofeedback, also known as neurofeedback, involves the use of sensors placed on the scalp to measure brain waves. The information is then fed back to the individual in the form of a video game or other visual or auditory signal. The individual learns to control the game or signal by controlling their brain waves. Over time, this can lead to changes in brain activity that are beneficial for the individual.
Applications[edit | edit source]
EEG Biofeedback has been used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- ADHD: Studies have shown that EEG Biofeedback can help to reduce symptoms of ADHD, including inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
- Anxiety and Depression: EEG Biofeedback can help to regulate the brain's response to stress, which can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
- Chronic Pain: By teaching individuals to control their brain waves, EEG Biofeedback can help to reduce the perception of pain.
- Sleep Disorders: EEG Biofeedback can help to regulate sleep patterns, which can improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of sleep disorders.
Research[edit | edit source]
While research on EEG Biofeedback is still in its early stages, studies have shown promising results. However, more research is needed to fully understand the effectiveness of this therapy and the mechanisms behind it.
