Indian people are the citizens and nationals of India, the second-most populous country in the world, with over 1.3 billion people. The term "Indian" refers to the nationality and is not limited to any specific ethnic group or religion. India is a diverse country with a rich cultural heritage, and its people are known for their varied traditions, languages, and customs.

India is a multilingual and multicultural society. The country is home to several major ethnic groups, including Indo-Aryan, Dravidian, Mongoloid, and others. The Indo-Aryan group constitutes the majority of the population, followed by the Dravidian group.

India is a linguistically diverse country with 22 officially recognized languages under the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India. The most widely spoken language is Hindi, followed by Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Malayalam, and Punjabi. English is also widely used for official and administrative purposes.

India is a secular state with no state religion. The major religions practiced in India include Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Hinduism is the predominant religion, followed by Islam.

Indian culture is characterized by its diversity and richness. It includes various forms of art, music, dance, and cuisine. Traditional Indian music includes Carnatic music and Hindustani classical music. Popular dance forms include Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, and Odissi. Indian cuisine is known for its use of spices and herbs, with regional variations such as North Indian cuisine, South Indian cuisine, Bengali cuisine, and Gujarati cuisine.

India celebrates a wide range of festivals, reflecting its cultural diversity. Major festivals include Diwali, Holi, Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, Vaisakhi, and Pongal.

Economy[edit | edit source]

India has a mixed economy with agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors. It is one of the world's fastest-growing major economies. Key industries include information technology, telecommunications, textiles, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals.

Education[edit | edit source]

India has a well-established education system with numerous universities, colleges, and schools. Prominent institutions include the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

India has produced many notable individuals in various fields, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, Sachin Tendulkar, and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
