Monster Cereals are a line of breakfast cereals produced by General Mills that are themed around classic horror films. The line was introduced in 1971 and has become a seasonal favorite, typically available around the Halloween season.

History[edit | edit source]

The Monster Cereals were first introduced in 1971 with the launch of Count Chocula and Franken Berry. These cereals were unique for their time, featuring a combination of sweetened corn cereal and marshmallow bits. Count Chocula was chocolate-flavored, while Franken Berry was strawberry-flavored.

In 1973, Boo Berry was introduced as the first blueberry-flavored cereal. The line expanded further with the addition of Fruit Brute in 1974, which was a fruit-flavored cereal. However, Fruit Brute was discontinued in 1982 and replaced by Yummy Mummy in 1988, which was also fruit-flavored. Yummy Mummy was discontinued in 1992.

Characters[edit | edit source]

Each cereal is represented by a mascot that is a playful take on a classic horror character:

Seasonal Availability[edit | edit source]

While the Monster Cereals were originally available year-round, they are now typically released seasonally around Halloween. This limited availability has made them a nostalgic favorite for many consumers.

Marketing and Popularity[edit | edit source]

The Monster Cereals have been marketed through various television commercials, often featuring the mascots in humorous situations. The cereals have also been featured in various pop culture references, further cementing their status as a nostalgic favorite.
