From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Morgagni Stewart Morel syndrome is a rare medical condition characterized by obesity, mental impairment, and other symptoms. It is named after the Italian anatomist Giovanni Battista Morgagni, the Scottish physician James Stewart, and the French physician Fernand Morel.

Symptoms and Signs[edit | edit source]

The most common symptoms of Morgagni Stewart Morel syndrome include obesity, hirsutism, mental impairment, and menstrual irregularities. Other symptoms may include hyperostosis frontalis interna, which is a thickening of the frontal bone in the skull.

Causes[edit | edit source]

The exact cause of Morgagni Stewart Morel syndrome is unknown. However, it is believed to be related to hormonal imbalances, particularly those involving the pituitary gland and ovaries.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Diagnosis of Morgagni Stewart Morel syndrome is based on the presence of the characteristic symptoms. Imaging studies such as CT scan or MRI may be used to detect hyperostosis frontalis interna. Hormonal studies may also be conducted to identify any imbalances.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for Morgagni Stewart Morel syndrome is symptomatic and supportive. This may include weight management strategies for obesity, hormonal therapy for menstrual irregularities, and mental health support for mental impairment.
