Genetically

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Genetically refers to the genetic constitution of an individual organism. It is derived from genes, which are the basic physical and functional units of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA and each gene contains a particular set of instructions, usually coding for a particular protein or for a particular function.

Genetics[edit | edit source]

Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in living organisms. It is generally considered a field of biology, but intersects frequently with many other life sciences and is strongly linked with the study of information systems.

Genetic Variation[edit | edit source]

Genetic Variation is a term used to describe the variation in the DNA sequence in each of our genomes. Genetic variation is what makes us all unique, whether in terms of hair color, skin color or even the shape of our faces.

Heredity[edit | edit source]

Heredity is the passing on of traits from parents to their offspring; either through asexual reproduction or sexual reproduction, the offspring cells or organisms acquire the genetic information of their parents.

Genetic Disorders[edit | edit source]

Genetic Disorders are medical conditions that are caused by an error in genes or chromosomes. These disorders may be inherited from parents or caused by a mutation that happens at conception.

Genetic Testing[edit | edit source]

Genetic Testing is a type of medical test that identifies changes in chromosomes, genes, or proteins. The results of a genetic test can confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition or help determine a person's chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder.
