Pakistan Society of Neuro-Oncology

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

The Pakistan Society of Neuro-Oncology (PSNO) is a professional organization whose mission is to advance brain tumor research and treatment in Pakistan. The society was established in 2013 with the intention of bringing together neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, and other healthcare experts to enhance the treatment of brain tumor patients in Pakistan.

Goals and objectives[edit | edit source]

One of the PSNO's primary goals is to increase awareness about brain tumors in Pakistan. Brain tumors are uncommon in Pakistan, with an estimated incidence of 1-2 per 100,000 inhabitants. Nonetheless, they continue to be a significant public health concern since they can cause severe impairment and death. The PSNO seeks to educate the general public and medical professionals about the symptoms and treatments of brain tumors, as well as the available support services.

Improve access[edit | edit source]

The PSNO also seeks to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors in Pakistan as a significant priority. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and stereotactic radiosurgery are some of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment methods for brain tumors that the association promotes. It also aims to enhance access to these treatments throughout Pakistan, particularly in underprivileged regions.

Education[edit | edit source]

The PSNO also plays a significant role in the training and education of Pakistani healthcare professionals. The association regularly offers workshops and training sessions for neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, and other healthcare professionals in order to keep them abreast of the most recent advancements in the field. In addition, it encourages the professional development of young people through scholarships and other programs.

Research[edit | edit source]

The PSNO is also involved in promoting neuro-oncology research in Pakistan. The organisation sponsors research projects and gives financing for research studies in order to increase knowledge about brain tumors and discover novel treatments.

Summary[edit | edit source]

The Pakistan Society of neuro-Oncology (PASNO) is Pakistan's first scientific society dedicated to neuro-oncology. It was created to bring together experts from within and outside Pakistan to improve the care of patients with tumors of the brain and spinal cord, and provide a platform for research, teaching and training activities related to neuro-oncology in Pakistan. PASNO is chartered by the Government of Pakistan and is a non-profit society. The society's inaugural symposium was attended by over 50 speakers from 13 countries.
