Regions of India

The Regions of India are a geographical division of the Indian subcontinent, which is the seventh-largest country in the world by land area. The regions are primarily divided into six zones: North, South, East, West, Central, and Northeast. Each region has its unique cultural, social, and economic features, as well as its own historical background.

North India[edit | edit source]

North India is known for its diverse culture and history. It includes the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as the Union Territory of Delhi. The region is home to several major river systems, including the Ganges and the Yamuna.

South India is the area encompassing the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, as well as the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. The region is known for its rich cultural heritage, including classical music, dance, and literature.

East India includes the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, as well as the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The region is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, including literature, music, and dance.

West India[edit | edit source]

West India consists of the states of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The region is known for its diverse culture, history, and economic prosperity.

Central India[edit | edit source]

Central India is a loosely defined region of India consisting of the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The region is known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance.

Northeast India[edit | edit source]

Northeast India is the easternmost region of India representing both a geographic and political administrative division of the country. It comprises eight states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
