Aprilia DOC

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Aprilia DOC is a Denomination of Controlled Origin (DOC) wine produced in the Lazio region of Italy. The wine is named after the town of Aprilia, located in the province of Latina, where the majority of the vineyards are located.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of wine production in Aprilia dates back to the Roman times. The area was known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, which made it ideal for viticulture. The Aprilia DOC was officially recognized in 1973, making it one of the younger DOCs in Italy.

Production[edit | edit source]

Aprilia DOC wines are produced from a blend of grape varieties, including Trebbiano, Malvasia, Sangiovese, and Merlot. The wines can be white, red, or rosé, and each type has specific requirements for the blend of grapes used.

White Aprilia DOC wines must be made from at least 50% Trebbiano, with the remainder made up of Malvasia and other white grape varieties. Red and rosé Aprilia DOC wines must be made from at least 50% Sangiovese, with the remainder made up of Merlot and other red grape varieties.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Aprilia DOC wines are known for their fruity and floral aromas, with notes of apple, pear, and citrus in the white wines, and cherry, plum, and spice in the red and rosé wines. The wines are typically medium-bodied and have a balanced acidity, making them versatile food wines.

Food Pairing[edit | edit source]

Aprilia DOC wines pair well with a variety of dishes. The white wines are excellent with seafood, poultry, and light pasta dishes, while the red and rosé wines pair well with red meat, game, and hearty pasta dishes.
