Donald Tresidder
Donald Bertrand Tresidder (April 7, 1894 – January 28, 1948) was an American physician, university president, and businessman. He is best known for his tenure as the president of Stanford University and his significant contributions to the development of the Yosemite National Park.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Donald Tresidder was born in Tipton, Indiana. He attended Stanford University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1919. Tresidder later pursued a medical degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine, graduating in 1924.

Stanford University[edit | edit source]
Tresidder became the president of Stanford University in 1943, succeeding Ray Lyman Wilbur. During his presidency, he focused on expanding the university's infrastructure and improving its financial stability. Tresidder's administration saw the construction of several new buildings and the establishment of new academic programs.
Yosemite National Park[edit | edit source]
In addition to his role at Stanford, Tresidder was deeply involved with the Yosemite National Park. He served as the president of the Yosemite Park and Curry Company, which managed the park's concessions and facilities. Tresidder's efforts were instrumental in promoting tourism and improving the amenities within the park.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Tresidder married Mary Curry, the daughter of David and Jennie Curry, founders of the Curry Company. The couple had two children. Tresidder's wife, Mary, was also actively involved in the management of the Yosemite Park and Curry Company.
Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]
Donald Tresidder died unexpectedly of a heart attack on January 28, 1948, while still serving as the president of Stanford University. His contributions to both Stanford and Yosemite have left a lasting legacy. The Tresidder Memorial Union at Stanford University is named in his honor.
