Forest Laboratories was founded in 1956 and was headquartered in New York City. Over the years, the company grew through a combination of internal development and strategic acquisitions. It became well-known for its successful marketing of antidepressants and other central nervous system drugs.
In 2014, Forest Laboratories was acquired by Actavis, a global pharmaceutical company, in a deal valued at approximately $25 billion. This acquisition was part of a trend of consolidation in the pharmaceutical industry, allowing Actavis to expand its product portfolio and global reach.
