== Frenulum of labia minora ==

The frenulum of labia minora is a fold of skin located in the female genitalia. It is a part of the vulva and plays a role in the structure and function of the external female reproductive system.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The frenulum of labia minora is situated at the posterior end of the labia minora, where the two folds of the labia minora meet. This area is also known as the fourchette. The labia minora are two thin folds of skin that lie within the labia majora and surround the vestibule of the vagina.

Function[edit | edit source]

The frenulum of labia minora helps to maintain the position of the labia minora and provides structural support to the vulva. It also plays a role in sexual arousal and sensitivity due to its rich supply of nerve endings.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

In some cases, the frenulum of labia minora can be involved in medical conditions or procedures. For example, it may be affected during childbirth, leading to tears or the need for an episiotomy. It can also be involved in certain types of female genital mutilation (FGM), which is a harmful practice that is illegal in many countries.
