African american
African American refers to an ethnic group of Americans with total or partial ancestry from any of the black racial groups of Africa. The term is usually used for African Americans who are descendants of enslaved black people who are from the United States.

The history of African Americans begins in the 16th century with the arrival of enslaved Africans to the Spanish colonies in the Americas and continues through the present day. The enslavement of African people in the United States lasted until the American Civil War in the 1860s, which led to their emancipation.
