Ataxic gait
A gait that is unsteady, awkward, and uncoordinated is called ataxic gait.
Features[edit | edit source]
The patient's gait is wide-based with truncal instability. It is also irregular with lurching steps that results in lateral veering. If this is severe, it can lead to falls.
Conditions[edit | edit source]
- This type of gait is seen in midline cerebellar disease.
- It can also be seen with severe lose of proprioception (sensory ataxia).
