Established in 2011, the Harvard Innovation Labs provide resources, mentorship, and a community to support the development of innovative ideas and ventures.

History[edit | edit source]

The Harvard Innovation Labs were founded in 2011 as a university-wide initiative to foster entrepreneurship and innovation across all of Harvard University's schools. The initiative was spearheaded by then-President Drew Gilpin Faust and other university leaders who recognized the need for a dedicated space to support entrepreneurial activities.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The Harvard Innovation Labs consist of three main components:

  • Launch Lab X: This is a 9-month accelerator program designed for Harvard alumni-led ventures. It provides mentorship, funding opportunities, and a collaborative workspace.
  • Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab: This lab focuses on life sciences ventures and provides specialized resources such as wet lab space and equipment for startups in the biotech and life sciences fields.

Programs and Resources[edit | edit source]

The Harvard Innovation Labs offer a variety of programs and resources to support entrepreneurs at different stages of their ventures:

  • Venture Incubation Program (VIP): A semester-long program that provides teams with mentorship, workshops, and access to the i-lab's resources.
  • Office Hours: Opportunities for students to meet with industry experts, faculty, and experienced entrepreneurs for guidance and advice.
  • Workshops and Events: Regularly scheduled workshops and events on topics such as business model development, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Funding Opportunities: Access to various funding sources, including the President’s Innovation Challenge, which awards substantial prizes to promising ventures.
