Percept
Percept is a term used in psychology to describe the process of perceiving: the recognition and interpretation of sensory stimuli based primarily on memory. The term is used in cognitive psychology to refer to the process by which sensory input is interpreted and understood.
Definition[edit | edit source]
A percept is the mental result or product of the process of perception. It is a cognitive understanding derived from the process of perceiving, and it is influenced by an individual's experiences, knowledge, and understanding of the world.
Perception Process[edit | edit source]
The process of perception begins with the reception of sensory input from the external environment. This input is then processed by the brain, which interprets the information and creates a percept. The percept is the final product of this process, representing the individual's understanding and interpretation of the sensory input.
Role in Cognitive Psychology[edit | edit source]
In cognitive psychology, the concept of the percept is used to understand how individuals interpret and understand sensory information. The percept is seen as the end product of the perception process, representing the individual's interpretation of the sensory input. This interpretation is influenced by the individual's past experiences, knowledge, and understanding of the world.
