Shake 'n Bake is a flavored bread crumb-style coating for chicken and pork manufactured by Kraft Heinz. The product provides a way to bake meat with a fried taste without the use of oil.
History[edit | edit source]
Shake 'n Bake was introduced by General Foods in 1965 as a convenient way to flavor meat in the oven. The product was a success and has been a staple in American kitchens ever since.
Preparation[edit | edit source]
To use Shake 'n Bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Moisten 2 lbs. bone-in chicken pieces (about 6 pieces), or 1-1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts (6 to 8 breasts) with water. Then, you shake the meat in the provided bag with the coating mix. Arrange on ungreased or foil-covered rimmed baking sheet. Bake in the oven until done (minimum internal temperature of 165°F for chicken, or 145°F for pork, when tested with meat thermometer).
Varieties[edit | edit source]
There are several varieties of Shake 'n Bake available, including Original Chicken, Original Pork, Honey Garlic & Herb, and Parmesan Crusted.
