From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Grey Poupon is a brand of Dijon mustard that originated in Dijon, France. It is now manufactured by Kraft Heinz based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The brand is most recognized for its advertising campaigns featuring luxury cars and the tagline "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?"

History[edit | edit source]

Grey Poupon was established in 1866 by Maurice Grey and Auguste Poupon. Grey had developed a machine that dramatically increased the speed of mustard production, and Poupon provided the financial backing to start the business. The brand was introduced to the United States in 1946 by the Heublein Company and was later acquired by RJ Reynolds in 1982. Today, it is part of the Kraft Heinz portfolio.

Product[edit | edit source]

Grey Poupon is known for its distinctive flavor, which is a result of using brown mustard seeds and white wine. The mustard seeds are ground to a very fine consistency, resulting in a smooth texture. The addition of white wine gives the mustard a tangy and sophisticated flavor. Grey Poupon offers several varieties of Dijon mustard, including the original, country style, and honey mustard.

Advertising[edit | edit source]

Grey Poupon's advertising campaigns have played a significant role in establishing the brand's image. The most famous campaign, which began in the 1980s, features a passenger in a luxury car asking another, "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" This phrase has since become a cultural reference, appearing in various films, television shows, and music lyrics.
