Bart simpson

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Bart Simpson is a fictional character in the American animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Nancy Cartwright and first appeared on television in The Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night" on April 19, 1987. Bart was created and designed by cartoonist Matt Groening while he was waiting in the lobby of James L. Brooks' office. Groening had been called to pitch a series of shorts based on his comic strip Life in Hell but instead decided to create a new set of characters. While the rest of the characters were named after Groening's family members, Bart's name is an anagram of the word brat.

Character[edit | edit source]

Bart is the mischievous, rebellious, misunderstood, disruptive and "potentially dangerous" eldest child of Homer and Marge; and the older brother of Lisa and Maggie. His character traits are typically childish and immature, including the frequent use of catchphrases. He is a disruptive student at Springfield Elementary School, and is also known for his rebellious nature and pranks on authority figures.

Cultural impact[edit | edit source]

Bart is one of the most influential characters in the history of television. The character has been used to promote various causes, from environmentalism to reading. He has also been the subject of controversy, with some parents and conservatives criticizing him for being a poor role model for children.
