The List of Ebola Outbreaks provides a comprehensive overview of the occurrences of the Ebola virus disease, a severe and often fatal illness in humans. The disease is caused by infection with one of the Ebola virus species, which are found in several African countries.

The Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then, outbreaks have appeared sporadically in Africa.

1976-1994[edit | edit source]

The first recorded outbreak of the Ebola virus occurred in 1976 in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). This was followed by a second outbreak in the same year in Sudan. Subsequent outbreaks were recorded in 1979, 1994 in Gabon and Côte d'Ivoire.

1995-2004[edit | edit source]

The period from 1995 to 2004 saw several outbreaks of the Ebola virus in various African countries, including Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda.

2005-2014[edit | edit source]

The decade from 2005 to 2014 witnessed a significant increase in the frequency and scale of Ebola outbreaks. The most notable of these was the 2014-2016 West African epidemic, which resulted in over 11,000 deaths.

2015-Present[edit | edit source]

Since 2015, there have been several outbreaks of the Ebola virus, most notably in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea.

Efforts to prevent and control the spread of the Ebola virus include vaccination, strict infection control practices, and community engagement.
