Creation[edit | edit source]

The Infinity Chili was developed by Nicholas Woods, a chili breeder and founder of Fire Foods in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Woods spent several years cross-breeding different chili varieties to create a super-hot chili. His efforts culminated in the development of the Infinity Chili.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Infinity Chili is characterized by its small, wrinkled appearance and vibrant red color. It belongs to the Capsicum chinense species, known for producing some of the hottest chili peppers in the world.

Heat[edit | edit source]

With a rating of 1,067,286 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), the Infinity Chili is considered extremely hot. The heat level of chili peppers is measured using the Scoville scale, which quantifies the amount of capsaicin present in a chili pepper.

World Record[edit | edit source]

For a brief period of two weeks in February 2011, the Infinity Chili held the Guinness World Record for the world's hottest chili. Its Scoville rating surpassed the previous record-holder at the time.

Displacement[edit | edit source]

On March 1, 2011, the Infinity Chili was displaced from its record-holding position by the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper, which registered a staggering 1,463,700 SHU. Despite losing the title, the Infinity Chili remains a significant contribution to the world of super-hot chilies.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The creation of the Infinity Chili represents a milestone in the quest for increasingly hot chili peppers. It reflects the growing interest in super-hot chilies among enthusiasts and the culinary world. The Infinity Chili continues to be used in various spicy dishes and hot sauces, appreciated for its intense heat and flavor.
