Olodaterol hydrochloride
Olodaterol Hydrochloride is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is marketed under the brand name Striverdi Respimat among others by Boehringer Ingelheim.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Olodaterol works by relaxing and opening the air passages to the lungs to make breathing easier. It is a bronchodilator that has a duration of action of 24 hours. It is selective for beta2-adrenergic receptors, which are primarily found in the lungs.
Clinical Use[edit | edit source]
Olodaterol Hydrochloride is used for the long-term treatment of COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is not used to relieve sudden breathing problems and will not replace a rescue inhaler.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Olodaterol Hydrochloride include nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, and sinusitis. Serious side effects may include worsening of breathing problems, fast or irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, and allergic reactions.
Contraindications[edit | edit source]
Olodaterol Hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to olodaterol, milk proteins, or any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients with asthma without the use of a long-term asthma control medication.
