Teaching method

Teaching method refers to the principles and methods used by teachers to enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly on subject matter to be taught and partly by the nature of the learner. For a particular teaching method to be appropriate and efficient it has to be in relation with the characteristic of the learner and the type of learning it is supposed to bring about.

A teaching method comprises the principles and methods used by teachers to enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly on subject matter to be taught and partly by the nature of the learner.

Types of Teaching Methods[edit | edit source]

There are several types of teaching methods, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.

Direct Instruction[edit | edit source]

Direct Instruction is a teaching method that is focused on systematic curriculum design and skillful lesson planning.

Discussion Method[edit | edit source]

The Discussion Method encourages students to participate and get involved in the learning process by asking and answering questions.

Collaborative Learning[edit | edit source]

Collaborative Learning is a teaching method that involves students working together to solve a problem or complete a task.

Inquiry-based Learning[edit | edit source]

Inquiry-based Learning is a teaching method that starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios rather than simply presenting established facts.

Factors Influencing Teaching Methods[edit | edit source]

Several factors influence the choice of teaching method. These include the nature of the subject matter, the students' learning style, and the teacher's personal beliefs about education.
