Karnataka is a state in the southern region of India. It is the largest state in South India and the seventh largest in India in terms of area. The state is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to the north, Telangana to the northeast, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, and Kerala to the south. The capital and largest city is Bangalore.

Karnataka's history dates back to the Paleolithic age. The region was part of several ancient Indian dynasties like the Maurya Empire, Satavahana dynasty, Chalukya dynasty, Rashtrakuta Dynasty, Hoysala Empire, and the Vijayanagara Empire.

Karnataka is situated on the western edge of the Deccan Plateau and has a diverse range of geography, from the cool climes of the Western Ghats to the hot coastal plains, interspersed with plateaus, river valleys and tropical forests.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Karnataka's economy is driven by the IT industry, as well as heavy industries, tourism, and agriculture. The state is a major producer of coffee, silk, and sandalwood.

Karnataka's culture is a blend of various factors influenced by its history, geography, and architecture. The state is known for its distinctive form of classical music known as Carnatic music, and its traditional dance forms like Yakshagana and Bharatanatyam.

Karnataka is home to some of India's premier educational institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science and National Institute of Technology, Surathkal.

Politics[edit | edit source]

The politics of Karnataka is characterized by its dominant political parties, the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Janata Dal (Secular).
