Susan J. Baserga
Susan J. Baserga is an American biochemist and molecular biologist known for her research on the biogenesis of ribosomes. She is a professor at Yale University in the Departments of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, Genetics, and Therapeutic Radiology.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Susan J. Baserga was born in New York City. She completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. She then pursued her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Yale School of Medicine.
Research and Career[edit | edit source]
Baserga's research focuses on the biogenesis of ribosomes, the cellular machines responsible for protein synthesis. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of how ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is processed and assembled into functional ribosomes. She has published numerous papers on the subject and has been recognized for her contributions to the field of molecular biology.
At Yale University, Baserga holds appointments in the Departments of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, Genetics, and Therapeutic Radiology. She is also a member of the Yale Cancer Center and the Yale Stem Cell Center.
