Fairfield County is a county located in the state of South Carolina, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,258. Its county seat is Winnsboro. The county was formed in 1785.

Fairfield County was established in 1785, one of the original counties created after the American Revolution. The county's name is said to have been inspired by the "fair fields" of the area. The region has a rich history, including significant events during the American Civil War.

Fairfield County is situated in the central part of South Carolina. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 710 square miles, of which 686 square miles is land and 24 square miles (3.4%) is water.
