Vat 69

Vat 69 is a popular Scotch whisky that is produced by William Sanderson Ltd., a subsidiary of Diageo. The whisky was first created in 1882 by William Sanderson, a Scottish liquor manufacturer from Leith, Scotland.

William Sanderson was born in Leith, Scotland in 1839. He started his career as a wine and spirits merchant, but his ambition led him to establish his own blending business in 1863. After experimenting with a number of different recipes, Sanderson finally created the blend that would become Vat 69 in 1882. The name 'Vat 69' comes from the vat number which was chosen by Sanderson as the best in flavor after tasting a hundred different vats.
