•reduce elevated total-C, LDL-C, Apo B, TG, and non-HDL-C, and to increase HDL-C in patients with primary (heterozygous familial and non-familial) hyperlipidemia or mixed hyperlipidemia. •reduce elevated total-C and LDL-C in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), as an adjunct to other lipid lowering treatments.


Who Should Not Use Ezetimibe + Simvastatin ?[edit | edit source]

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of this medication
  • Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic transaminase levels
  • Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant
  • Nursing mothers

  • Generic versions were approved in 2017.
  • The combination preparation is marketed by Merck & Co. under the trade names Vytorin in the US and Inegy in the European Union.
  • In 2017, it was the 298th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than one million prescriptions.

  • The usual dosage range is 10/10 mg/day to 10/40 mg/day.
  • The recommended usual starting dose is 10/10 mg/day or 10/20 mg/day.
  • Vytorin should be taken as a single daily.

What special precautions should I follow?[edit | edit source]

  • Patients should be advised of the increased risk of myopathy, including rhabdomyolysis.
  • Patients should be advised to report promptly any unexplained and/or persistent muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
  • This medicine should be discontinued immediately if myopathy is diagnosed or suspected.
  • Check liver enzyme tests before initiating therapy and as clinically indicated there after.


What to do in case of emergency/overdose?[edit | edit source]

  • No specific treatment of overdosage with Vytorin can be recommended.
  • In the event of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive measures should be employed.


Can this medicine be used in pregnency?[edit | edit source]

  • Vytorin is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.
  • Lipid-lowering drugs offer no benefit during pregnancy, because cholesterol and cholesterol derivatives are needed for normal fetal development.


What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?[edit | edit source]

  • Store at 20-25°C (68-77°F).
  • Keep container tightly closed.
  • Store in original container until time of use.
  • When product container is subdivided, repackage into a tightly-closed, lightresistant container.
  • Entire contents must be repackaged immediately upon opening.
