Migration from Kerala to the United States increased after the 1965 Immigration Act, primarily involving nurses and other healthcare professionals. This trend has continued with a growing Malayali presence in IT and engineering.

Malayali Americans often celebrate traditional festivals such as Onam and Vishu and are known for their contributions to the cultural mosaic of the United States through their traditional dance forms like Kathakali and Mohiniyattam.
