Malayali Americans are Americans of Malayali descent from the state of Kerala in South India. Malayalis have contributed significantly to American culture, particularly in the fields of healthcare, literature, and business.

History[edit | edit source]

Migration from Kerala to the United States increased after the 1965 Immigration Act, primarily involving nurses and other healthcare professionals. This trend has continued with a growing Malayali presence in IT and engineering.

Malayali Americans often celebrate traditional festivals such as Onam and Vishu and are known for their contributions to the cultural mosaic of the United States through their traditional dance forms like Kathakali and Mohiniyattam. They maintain strong ties to their roots through numerous community organizations.
